Addressing Barriers and Fostering Disability Inclusion In UK and Indonesian Higher Education Institutions
This project is a collaboration between the University of Nottingham (UK) and Universitas Gadjah Mada (Indonesia). This project aims to enhance disability inclusion in academia by understanding and addressing the barriers faced by disabled researchers. By systematically identifying these barriers, the project seeks to raise awareness and promote inclusive practices at universities. This effort is crucial for creating a supportive environment where disabled researchers can thrive.

Shining a Light on Unheard Voices
To achieve these objectives, we will:
-
Gather insights through surveys and interviews with disabled researchers.
-
Run priority-setting workshops that will bring together key stakeholders to chart a course for future research and action.
The outcomes of this project are poised to make a lasting impact. By raising awareness of the challenges faced by disabled researchers, the project will promote inclusive practices at universities, creating a supportive environment where everyone can excel. Moreover, a co-produced policy brief will outline actionable recommendations, guiding institutions on how to better support disabled researchers. A network for disabled staff will be established in Indonesia, fostering a sense of community and providing a platform for sharing knowledge and resources. Connections between Indonesian and existing UK Disabled Staff networks will strengthen partnerships and pave the way for collaborative efforts that transcend borders.
